Hello, travel writers,
It will not surprise you that Stacey and I love to fangirl over great travel writers, and Natalie Compton, travel reporter at The Washington Post, is extremely high on our must-follow list. As soon as we saw her latest Substack post all about how she became a travel writer, we knew we had to share it with you all. There are so many different ways to turn travel writing into a career or side hustle (including, for many of you here, a class like Be A Travel Writer), and as Natalie highlights, it doesn’t always require a traditional journalism degree.

In fact, sometimes it all starts with the right pitch. Keep scrolling for this week’s opportunities, and don’t forget you can subscribe to our job board for WAY more jobs each week, including calls for pitches, full-time, part-time, and copywriting roles, updated daily, for just $4/month or $40/year.
Need more advice or want to brush up on some skills? Check out our classes and remember that our students are always welcome to reach out with questions at [email protected].

One Story We Love

Today we launched our 2026 Global Vision Awards at Travel + Leisure, an annual moment dedicated to “passionate people and can-do organizations working to make the world a better place.” We could all use some positive news and a reminder that there are people dedicated to doing good in the world right now, so go ahead and take a look.
One Place We Love

I (Nina) just got back (approx. 30 minutes ago) from my first trip to Mammoth Lakes, a refreshingly old-school ski town in the Sierra Nevadas that opened its first new hotel in 18 years this winter, Limelight Mammoth. In addition to hotel rooms, they rent out their residences, which are so ideal for a group trip with lots of gear. (Those of you who have been to Aspen might be familiar with the brand.) I visited with my friend, fellow University of Miami Hurricane, and Be A Travel Writer student Tiffany Chang, and we spent time exploring on and off the slopes—including a gorgeous hike around Convict Lake (above) and the best Cuban sandwich we’ve had outside of Miami. More to come.
See you in class,
Stacey & Nina
